“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails."

  • EXPLORE

“We need the tonic of wildness...At the same time that we are earnest to explore and learn all things, we require that all things be mysterious and unexplorable, that land and sea be indefinitely wild, unsurveyed and unfathomed by us because unfathomable. We can never have enough of nature.”

Hot Water Fountains of Iceland

Strokkur is a hot fountain geyser located in a geothermal area in Iceland. It’s one amongst the famous geysers on Earth for its very frequent eruptions. The natural hot fountain erupts once every 6 to 10 minutes in a day.The height of the mountain varies from 20 metres to 40 metres high. The first noticed eruption of the fountain was found in 1789, during an earthquake in the area that opened the blockage for the geyser. Earlier it was used to achieve a height of 60 metres. This was till 20’s, until another earthquake blocked its conduit (Passage Channel) again. Local people cleaned out the blockage and the fountain is regularly erupting ever since. There are about thirty smaller geysers and hot pools in the area.

Geysir,Iceland
Geysir is another famous hot fountain situated about 50 metres away from Strokkur in Iceland. It is also known as The great Geysir. The fountain erupts up to a height of 70 metres. However, the eruptions are not as frequent as Strokkur geyser, and have stopped even for years at times. The study reveals that this geyser has been active for approx. 10,000 years. According to known records in 1630, the geysers erupted so ferociously that it trembled the whole area. In 1845, the eruption reached about 170metres.
